System Scouting

Complexes are simple

Complexes are phases of ball possession, differentiated by the first touch.
The serve is a complex of its own. You may call it K0.
K1 is the side out complex i.e. starts with a reception of a serve from the opponent team. You will discover all of them when you use Kyber Vision.
What is important for now is the obvious : A team organizes differently when the first touch is a Defense or when it is a Free Ball, or an attack cover...
If you want a team to improve you must observe it and become familiar with the concept of Complexes.

Space, Time and interactions

If the ball moves faster than the oppotent team, you win. If you move faster than the ball, you win.
Volley ball is all about how you use time. Well... it is about how players use time, save time, steal time from the opponent... It is about how players interact to occupy the court and prevent the ball from falling.
Kyber Vision offers a "conventional" review phase, that we can call Analytical Review as opposed to another feature that we call Systemic review.

In their article "Statistical analyses of volleyball team performance", to be found in "Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport; Mar 1992; 63, 1; pg. 11-18" Eom, H J and Schutz, R W discuss the difference between the Attack process and the counterattack process.
Then In their subsequent article named "Transition play in team performance of volleyball: a log-linear analysis." to e found in "Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport; Sep 1992; 63, 3; pg. 261" the same authors concluded that the "reception-to-set transition play in the Attack Process was superior in quality to the dig-to-set transition play in the Counterattack Process".

Following this line of analysis up to 7 different complexes emerged until one of the last examples by Martins, J.B., Afonso, J., Coutinho, P., Fernandes, R., and Mesquita, I. in 2021.
"The Attack in Volleyball from the Perspective of Social Network Analysis: Refining Match Analysis through Interconnectivity and Composite of Variables." in Montenegrin Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, 10 (1), 45-54.

In their article "INDOOR VOLLEYBALL AND BEACH VOLLEYBALL" to be found in "Routledge Handbook of Sports Performance Analysis, ISBN 9780203806913, 2013. pp 13", Isabel Mesquita, José M. Palao, Rui Marcelino, José Afonso study Volleyball Analysis and comment :
"In this field, chronological analyses have evolved from studies applying descriptive designs to ones with an emphasis on correlation analysis. Recent research in the field of notational analysis tends to follow Thelen’s (2005) recommendations, and instead of establishing simple cause-and-effect relationships, it embraces the possibility of profuse non-linear interactions."

As opposed to many widely deployed softwares, Kyber Vision offers the possibility ot observe your team through the prism of game complexes.
